House #146
Destiny & family
What homeowner ship means to them "This opportunity is nothing short of a blessing from God! This opportunity means new beginnings for me as well as stability. Not only will this open up doors so that I can focus on my future, this will secure my life in a way that I've wanted for so long. Knowing that this home will be a first major investment for me brings me so much joy. I'm excited to begin new traditions and create special memories with my family." "I face several challenges as a renter. I have lived in my current apartment for nearly eleven years and have had numerous issues since I moved in. For example: It doesn't feel safe in this area due to all of the homelessness and crime that takes place here. Being a single female, I don't like the feeling of coming home from work late and walking into my building alone, not knowing what to expect. I've seen a lot here, including homeless people sleeping in the hallways, lots of drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, and the worst thing yet- a homicide right outside my living room window, all very tragic to witness. ...When I come home from work late, many nights I have to drive around the block for long periods of time to wait for parking, being that I live amongst several businesses and bars. Another challenge I have is the shared laundry space. Its not very clean and lots of times I have to wait a while to be able to wash clothes. There was a point where the laundry room was closed for nearly a year due to a fire. Most times its almost more convenient to just haul all of my laundry to the laundromat." A message to the volunteers "I'd like to thank each and every volunteer from the bottom of my heart! Thank you so much in advance for all of the time, effort and energy that you will pour into my home. I am beyond grateful and looking forward to learning new skills and working hard with you toward this dream of mine!" became a partner family July 2024 dedication coming soon |

groundbreaking
Destiny worked to earn her sweat equity hours. Sweat equity refers to time spent working on job sites, working at our restore or office, hours spent attending classes to learn about budgeting, use of credit, home maintenance and escrow/insurance. Every adult in the home must earn 250 hours, not easy when working, raising a family, but they are well on their way.
