about Habitat for Humanity QC
We build so that everyone has the opportunity to build a better future. A decent affordable place to call home prevents trade-offs that restrict education, are detrimental to health, and create financial burdens. Ownership of a decent, affordable home empowers individuals and families to invest in the future and build strong, stable, and self-reliant lives.
We build because of your support. Your donation will help us do more. Your donation will help families do more. Your donation will help communities do more. Thanks to your donation, we are transforming lives together.
Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities is empowered by God to bring people together to build and renovate homes, to revitalize our community and to restore hope. Founded in 1993, Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities was incorporated in our community upon the return of a mission group who had been introduced to Habitat for Humanity as they were helping to rebuild in Florida after Hurricane Andrew.
Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities serves Scott County in Iowa and Rock Island County in Illinois. We have completed over 120 homes, building in the towns of Davenport, East Moline, Milan, Moline, Rock Island, and Silvis. Since 1993, our families have paid back more than $1.4 million dollars in local property taxes. Not only do our programs impact the people we serve but the whole community realizes benefits with every family we help.
New home construction will always be at our core, but in 2014 we began to grow past that as we launched a Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative in the Floreciente neighborhood in Moline. This effort is a comprehensive look at neighborhood redevelopment. Our staff has worked to form a coalition of community leaders, neighbors, business, churches and other organizations to improve not just the housing stock in the Floreciente neighborhood but the overall health of the neighborhood.
In 2018, a wheelchair ramp construction and a home repair program were launched. These programs also serve low income residents of the Quad Cities. Both programs operate with the same philosophy as our home building program with sweat equity hours required and with a no interest payment plan based on income utilized. These programs improve the lives of those living with disabilities in our community as well as empower more people the opportunity to age in place.
